As 2014 rounds out its final lap, I cannot help but look over where this past year has taken us while also looking forward to what is next. There is something about the New Year approaching that means something new and exciting; a clean slate if you will.
With that being said, I was given a message around this time last year from Craig Groeschel over at LifeChurch, where he talked about setting resolutions and how often times we won’t even set them for ourselves because they look so big and unattainable. He went on to say that “it’s often the little things that no one sees that result in the big things that everyone wants.” One small change can change the course of your entire year as long as you put your complete attention and focus on it.
At the end of that message, he challenged everyone to pray and ask God to choose ONE word for the year that is going to be your word to focus on (he joked that sometimes it’s not a word you like), and then choose a verse in the Bible that is going to help direct your steps when things get challenging or try to take you off that course of that word.
So this year, in 2014, after watching that message, I kept feeling like my word should be “faith”. Easy enough, right? I thought, “How hard can this be? I already have a pretty good faith in God.” My verse was Luke 1:37: “For with GOD, nothing shall be impossible.” (Which side note, I absolutely LOVE the story it comes from in the Bible now that I have read it.)
This year has certainly tested my faith in ways and stretched me in ways that I cannot even begin to explain, but I am a completely better person because of it. When times got hard, I knew that it was just going to strengthen my faith and trust in God, no matter what was going on, whether it is in business or in my family life. My relationships are better, my roots in my business are deeper, my joy has returned. I am finally Caity again.
All this happened because of one little word. One tiny little thing that took ten minutes completely changed the course of my year and also my life. For those of you who have asked me how I changed so much so quickly, here is my secret sauce. Don’t believe me? I dare you to ask God to pick your word and you stick to it this year. Keep it visible along with your verse and review them often. Then just watch where you are next year at this time. God bless!

I'd love to hear what you think about this. What do you think your word is?
